A new variant of coronavirus (BA.2.86) was first reported in Israel. Now almost 100,000 cases of the disease caused by it have been detected worldwide. These are, in particular, cases in the UK, USA, South Africa, Sweden, France, Portugal, Canada, Thailand, Switzerland and Australia.
What are the symptoms?
The most common symptoms are runny nose, headache, fatigue, sneezing and sore throat, and less commonly eye irritation and rash.
“We do not exclude that a new variant of the coronavirus infection will appear in Ukraine. Considering that thousands of Ukrainians, who were forced to leave their homes because of the war, will be arriving or returning home from countries where there is already a new strain,” Igor Kuzin.
What to do?
In each region during the 2023/24 epidemic season, specialists from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will continue to collect samples, laboratory test strains and study emerging mutations.
Vaccination remains the only effective way to provide immunity against coronavirus disease, especially for people with weakened immunity or comorbidities; pregnant women, people over 60 years of age.
