Ukrainians can receive medicines for free or with a small surcharge at pharmacies that have a contract with the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU). The cost of medicines dispensed to patients is reimbursed to pharmacies by the state.
More than 3.6 million patients in Ukraine already use the program “Affordable Medicines”. Since the beginning of 2022, pharmacies participating in the program have received reimbursement from the NHSU for dispensed medicines, including insulin products, for about UAH 1.5 billion.
Currently, 401 medicines are included in the reimbursement program. Among them: medicines for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, heart attack and stroke prevention, diabetes mellitus (including insulin preparations), mental and behavioral disorders, epilepsy, bronchial asthma and non-sugar diabetes.
As a reminder, during martial law, doctors can write both electronic and paper prescriptions based on available technical capabilities.
Pharmacies participating in the Affordable Drug Program are marked with a sticker on the front door that reads “Here is Affordable Drugs.”
To find the nearest pharmacy with an “affordable drug,” NHSU’s call center staff at 16-77 will help you find the nearest pharmacy.
