On August 14, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the Seven Holy Martyrs of the Macabees. What happened to them was written for our edification - that is what the Holy Scriptures say
The brothers Maccabees in 166-160 before the birth of Christ led a rebellion against the Syrian Greeks who had enslaved Judea and forced it to worship pagan gods. The seven brothers and their mother Solomonia were executed for believing in one God and opposing the invaders.
The whole family was gone, but the strength of faith and the need to defend their principles, their identity, their independence was established.
These tenets are more relevant than ever to the Tribes of Trident.
