The director of the pharmacy and two pharmacists organized the sale of counterfeit medicines and smuggled them from Russia and the Middle East. Investigators of the Solomenskiy police department, with operational support from officers of the Department of Cyber Security of the Security Service of Ukraine and under the procedural guidance of the Solomenskiy District Prosecutor’s Office, documented the illegal activities of three people who were selling counterfeit medicines in Ukraine.
Two pharmacists from Kiev region and Kharkiv, as well as the director of a pharmacy from Kiev region were found guilty. The offenders established a channel for illegal importation of counterfeit medicines of oncological group into Ukraine. They sold them through Internet sites, sending them across the country by postal service and in pharmacies in Kyiv region.
During the investigation, law enforcers found out that the counterfeit drugs were manufactured in the territory of the Russian Federation and in several Middle Eastern countries, from where the businessmen imported them to Ukraine in disguised technological cavities of their own cars. Such criminal activity brought them more than one million hryvnias of profit weekly.
During searches at the places of residence and work of the defendants in Kyiv region and Kharkiv, law enforcers seized more than 60 items of various medicines, draft records, cell phones, computer equipment, a car and money received from criminal activity.
Investigators of the Solomenskiy Police Department have already informed the defendants of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 2 Article 321-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – falsification of medicines or circulation of falsified medicines.
The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to ten years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years and with confiscation of property.
