The first patronage center in Ukraine has been opened

The center will operate on the basis of the Zhytomyr Medical Institute, the press center of the Ministry of Healthcare reports. It will train primary care doctors and nurses who provide home visits to families with children from birth to 3 years old, and will demonstrate how to interact with families at home. Zhytomyr Oblast is the second oblast in Ukraine after Donetsk Oblast to start implementing this new model of home visits by healthcare workers to pregnant women and families with children from birth to three years old.

The newly created center consists of two zones: a training zone, where doctors, students of the institute and future parents will be trained, and a simulation zone, where they can learn practical skills of infant care and identify safety risks for an infant at home.

At its opening, the implemented partner of the NGO  “In Touch Ukraine Foundation” with the support ofUNICEF handed over telemedicine equipment to 13 primary health care centers from Zhytomyr, Kyiv oblasts and the city of Kyiv that have already joined the “Care from Birth at Home” program.

Telemedicine devices will help to improve the interaction between the nurse and the pediatrician:

  • will ensure constant monitoring and control of the condition of the young patient;
  • will improve the productivity of doctors by freeing up their working day and reducing the number of offline examinations;
  • reduce parental anxiety.

Since the beginning of the year, more than 2,000 families with newborns in 11 regions of Ukraine have been receiving home health nurses’ services.
